The 85th Annual National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Ghana, was opened at Bagh-e Ahmad, at Pomadze, with a commendation to Ghanaians for the peaceful manner in which they voted in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, the Ameer & Missionary-In-Charge, who made the commendation, said in the run up to the elections in December 2016, there was uncertainty among many Ghanaians about what the elections could lead up to. Ghanaians, he said, kept asking each other whether they could pass the test that was before them but the elections passed peacefully without incidents.
Opening the Convention, Maulvi Salih said, “all of sudden as if the dark clouds have been dispersed by an invisible hand, the despair and apprehensions had been turned into hope”.
The theme is “Engendering Patriotism: The Role of Religion”. More than 30,000 Ahmadi Muslims and guests are attending.
The Ameer said the events in Ghana attracted the attention of the world and the outcome of the elections made the world to “take note and declare that, that was one of Ghana’s finest hours”. He congratulated Ghanaians for the high level of maturity exhibited during the electioneering campaigning and called for such an enviable achievement to be jealously guarded.
Ameer Bin Salih said the love that Ghanaians had shown for their country was worthy of praise and saluted all Ghanaians for distinguishing themselves in their quest for democratic consolidation.
Maulvi Salih said the “two main heavy weights and patriots” who contributed to achieving this feat were former President John Dramani Mahama who graciously accepted defeat and handing over the reins of administration to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. He said his posture as a true patriot and his magnanimity and commitment to peace and the rule of law contributed immensely to the peace we are enjoying. The Ameer thanked President Mahama for all the sacrifices he made to advance the cause of Ghana and wished him well.
The Ghana Ahmadi leader said the most prominent actor of the two patriotic personalities was Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. While congratulating him on his success in the elections, Maulvi Bin Salih pledged the support of all Ahmadis to Nana Addo and his administration for the development of Ghana.
